Honda keys, cut and programmed at your car
Honda Key Replacement in Jacksonville, FL
Honda is the make we cut and program more than any other in Jacksonville. From a 2004 Civic with a chipped blade key to a 2024 CR-V with a push-to-start fob, a We Do Locksmith technician comes to the car, makes the key, programs it, and erases the lost one, usually inside an hour.

Key types by year
Which Honda key do you have?
| Model years | Key type | What that means for replacement |
|---|---|---|
| Before 1998 | Plain metal key, no chip | Cut by code or from the door lock. No programming needed, and the least expensive Honda key to replace. |
| 1998 to 2013 | Transponder key and remote-head key | A chip in the head talks to Honda's immobilizer. The edge-cut blade is easy to cut; the chip must be programmed at the car, and lost keys are deleted at the same time. |
| 2013 to 2016 | High-security laser-cut transponder key | Accord, Civic and CR-V moved to the HON66 sidewinder blade. It needs a laser-cut machine, which our vans carry, plus the same on-site programming. |
| 2013 onward, push-to-start trims | Smart key (proximity fob) | The fob must match the exact frequency and part number for the model year. We program it at the car, including all-keys-lost, and remove the old fob from memory. |
How Honda key programming works
Honda keys and fobs are programmed through the diagnostic port under the dash. For a duplicate we pair the new key alongside your working one. For all keys lost we retrieve the code, cut the blade, then put the immobilizer into learning mode and register the new key or fob, which also wipes any lost keys so they can no longer start the car.
Things to know before you call about a Honda
- Smart fobs for 2014 and newer Hondas must match the exact frequency and model-year part number; a cheap online fob that looks identical often will not program.
- Older Honda transponder keys sometimes stop being recognized after a battery change or jump start; a reprogram fixes it and no new key is needed.
- Honda keyless-start models will not start with a dead fob battery unless you hold the fob against the start button; try that before assuming the key is gone.
Pricing for Honda keys
A plain Honda blade key costs least, a transponder or remote-head key more, and a smart fob most. All are well under what the dealer charges once you add their programming labor, and you do not tow the car anywhere.

Honda key questions
Can you make a Honda key with no original?
Yes. We cut the blade from the door lock or the key code and program the chip or fob at the car. Bring your registration and ID.
Do I have to go to the dealer for a Honda smart key?
No. Honda smart keys for all model years sold in the US are programmed on site by our technicians, with the lost fob erased at the same time.
My Honda key fob stopped working. Is it dead?
Usually it is the battery or a lost pairing. We check both before quoting a replacement; a re-pair or a new shell is much cheaper than a new fob.
