Key Fob Replacement and Programming in Jacksonville, FL

A dead, cracked or lost key fob does not have to mean a dealer appointment. We replace and program smart keys, proximity fobs and remote-head keys at your car anywhere in Jacksonville, usually within the hour of arriving. If your fob only needs a new battery or a re-pair to the car, we tell you that instead of selling you a new one.

Replacement or just reprogramming?

Fobs stop working for three reasons: a dead battery, a fob that has lost its pairing with the car, or physical damage to the board. The first two do not need a new fob, and the technician checks them before quoting a replacement. A cracked case with working electronics gets a new shell. Only a fob that is lost or truly dead gets replaced.

When a fob is replaced, the old one is removed from the car's memory. If your keys were lost rather than broken, that step matters: nobody who finds them can open or start your car.

Which makes we program on site

Honda, Toyota and Lexus, Ford and Lincoln, Nissan and Infiniti, Hyundai and Kia, Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram, Subaru, Mazda, Volkswagen and most Audi are programmed through the diagnostic port at your car. Some Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Land Rover and Volvo models restrict fob data to the manufacturer for certain years; our brand pages say which, and the dispatcher will tell you before you book.

  • OEM and quality aftermarket fobs, your choice and price point
  • Frequency and part number matched to your exact model year
  • Spare fobs made while you still have one working, the cheapest time to do it

Smart key not detected?

If the dash says the key is not detected but the fob is in your hand, try holding it against the start button; most cars have a backup reader there. If that starts the car, it is the fob battery. If it does not, call us and we will diagnose it at the car rather than guessing.

Questions we hear every day

Can a locksmith program a key fob, or only the dealer?

A mobile automotive locksmith programs fobs for most makes at your car. A few makes lock fob data for certain years; we tell you up front if your car is one of them.

How long does key fob programming take?

Usually fifteen to thirty minutes at the car once the technician arrives, longer for all-keys-lost jobs on some makes.

My fob works but the buttons do not. Do I need a new one?

Often not. Worn button pads or a cracked case can be fixed with a new shell, and a fob that lost its pairing can be reprogrammed. The technician checks before quoting a replacement.
